Ah, it’s New Year’s, and as with every other year, most of us are busy setting intentions, creating visions, and trying to predict what’s ahead.
We are optimistic, hopeful, most of us can feel this year is our year. Maybe it’s because we’re going into a new decade, or maybe some of us know it’s time for a change.
For me, I felt like this was a year of learning; not only with my blog and career goals, but with life and understanding myself as well. I’m ready to execute that knowledge and, God willing, manifest one of my best years yet.
If you’re like me, here are some tips I’m using to set the tone for the New Year:
1. Let Go of The Past
In honor of the new decade, this year, I’m striving to leave the 2010’s where they are. For me, this means not only disassociating myself from unpleasant memories (like high school), but also moving on from past failures, regrets, and relationships completely.
With this being the decade that I will most likely finish school, find a career, get married, and have children in, I want to step into it with a clean slate and nothing holding me back.
2. Live in the Moment
I can admit that I’m 100% guilty of stressing so much about the future, that I sometimes forget to live in the present. However, something I’m learning is that you cannot rush anything in life, and everyday I’m reminded about the value of the journey.
So, in 2020, I’m not focused on fast results or getting through something, but soaking it all in and taking what I can from every experience.
I’ve learned that it’s actually unproductive to be constantly thinking about the future, because you never actually get anything done.
Hard work, consistency, and tending to what’s happening now is the only our only hope to ensuring success in the future.
3. Go For It
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned this year is the value of putting myself out there. For me, it can sometimes be a daily or weekly struggle to not experience self-doubt. I fear being judged, looking stupid, or failing.
But I’ve learned it’s all about having the trust and confidence in yourself to know that you and your dreams are valid and important.
After all, It’s your life, and you can do what you want with it. You’d be pleasantly surprised to see how many people support you, or the people you inspire.
4. Remove Yourself from Toxic Situations
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again; be mindful who you are surrounding yourself with.
This year, have the courage to set boundaries, create distance and/or remove yourself from toxic situations. Remind yourself of what you deserve out of the relationships in your life– whether it be from family, friends, significant others, and/or work related.
Spoken like a true Gen-Z/Millennial: you should never have to endure *long-term* suffering for the sake of others’ happiness and/or comfortability, nor at the risk of your own.
5. Take Care of Yourself
In the midst of finishing up college, finding a job, and getting my life together, I know that this past year, I’ve sacrificed a lot of self-care. That’s why in 2020, I’m focusing more on my personal wellness, and I encourage you to do the same.
For me, this means eating healthier, getting a full 8 hours, going to the gym, being more organized, journaling, practicing gratitude etc., etc.
Studies show that when you practice personal wellness, it leads to increased satisfaction, self-esteem, and productivity– and that is the energy we need to succeed in 2020.
With that being said, I hope that you all are feeling refreshed and ready to take on the decade! You got this, Happy New Year!
